GoDaddy DNS Settings to Forward Email with ForwardMX Print

  • dns records, mx records, godaddy

We do not encourage anyone to use GoDaddy, and if you do have your domain there, we recommend transferring it to Domain Name Sanity.

For those who are stuck with GoDaddy, we also want to provide a step for step guide to move your email forwarding to ForwardMX and benefit from the faster, more secure and more stable email transactions. If you use Cloudflare or another DNS provider with the domain that you have registered at GoDaddy, check out our other guides.

Go to your GoDaddy domain settings

Start by logging in to your GoDaddy account, and go to your domain or product list.

Go to the DNS -> Manage Zones editor

Search for the domain you want to edit

This is how the default settings look like

Yours may be different if you already changed something. Relevant for us are only the fields labeled with “MX”. If you don't have those, you will have to manually create them.

Set MX records

We have 2 MX records that both should be added as seen in the following images. You can find the specific records for your service in your ForwardMX account by clicking on "MX Records and Setup Instructions"

and this

Then you need to add the TXT record, which contains the SPF value to ensure that your forwarded emails arrive in your inbox.

The value for all ForwardMX accounts is "v=spf1 include:_spf.forwardmx.net -all"

If everything is done it should look like this:

Done!

Now, we just need to wait for DNS propagation to take place. This can be as quick as 5-10 minutes or as long as 48 hours, until all email providers recognise the change and start delivering your new emails to ForwardMX.
